Denver-based Scotch, an AI operating system for liquor retailers, has secured $20 million in Series A funding led by VMG Partners. The startup provides an all-in-one solution including point-of-sale hardware, custom software, and regulatory compliance tools for liquor stores ranging from boutique shops to enterprise operations with over a dozen lanes.

Scotch targets the fragmented liquor market with over 200 regional POS systems, offering a hybrid revenue model through SaaS fees and payment processing. The company differentiates itself by building AI directly into back-office workflows to eliminate administrative friction, saving business owners over a full day of work weekly while improving inventory accuracy.

Since its founding in January 2024, Scotch has grown over 500% year-over-year and processed more than $1 billion in payments. While the company employs targeted sales approaches, its fastest growth vector has been organic word-of-mouth within the tight-knit liquor store community, where state licensing caps create friendly networks of competitors who refer business to each other.
