Fox is revamping Outkick following the exit of its founder Clay Travis, hiring Matt Calkins, who resigned from The Seattle Times over a column on transgender athletes. In June, Fox News Digital integrated Outkick into its larger operation, updating its logo and tagline to "sports and culture collide." Traffic has increased 19 percent month-over-month since the integration. The site is expanding coverage into wrestling, hunting, fishing, and college sports to attract fans seeking "coverage from the other side" and "funny irreverence." Outkick has also added Craig Carton, a New York drive-time radio host, to create a sports and culture show.

Matt Calkins, a longtime sports columnist, joined Outkick this week after his controversial departure from The Seattle Times. In his resignation column, Calkins argued that supporting a ban on transgender athletes in women's sports does not automatically make a person transphobic. He cited columns on Substack, including one about Colin Kaepernick, as precursors to his Outkick work. Calkins stated he chose Outkick for the editorial freedom he felt was lacking at The Seattle Times. Clay Travis remains supportive of Outkick, hosting "Out Kick the Show" on FS1, while launching a new competitor, Sport & State. Sports have become central to the media industry, with live games driving viewership and companies like The New York Times investing heavily in sports properties.
