Apple is developing game controllers codenamed "T6502" and "T1057" for iPhone and other devices, as reported by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman in the Power On newsletter. These controllers appeared in macOS 26.7 release candidate mentions and are designed for a handheld mobile experience first, featuring thumbsticks, home buttons, triggers, and shoulder buttons. Apple plans to launch the controllers under its "Beats" brand, also known as "Beats by Dre," to introduce non-traditional products that don't align with the core Apple brand.

The T1057 model includes accelerometer and gyroscope support, while the T6502 does not and may rely on the iPhone's sensors. The T1057 could work with third-party devices, positioning Apple to compete in the broader gaming controller ecosystem. This move leverages the growing power of mobile SoCs, which now match laptop and handheld console performance, making phones viable as gaming handhelds.
