San Diego Wave FC has signed Italy forward Barbara Bonansea on loan from Juventus through June 2027, the teams announced Friday. Bonansea, 35, is one of Italy's most decorated players with over 100 caps and two World Cups.

"We are adding a player with tremendous experience who has consistently won championships," said San Diego GM Camille Ashton. "Barbara brings technical quality, intelligence, and a winning mentality."

The loan is Bonansea's first time playing professionally outside Italy. She spent nearly a decade with Juventus, winning six Serie A titles. Before that, she won two Serie A titles with Brescia and debuted for Torino at 13.

Bonansea joins a Wave team fifth in the NWSL with 39 points, tied in a three-way battle behind Gotham FC (45 pts.) and Washington Spirit (43 pts.). San Diego has scored 32 goals in 23 games. The Wave lost Dudinha to a season-ending knee injury in June. Catarina Macario, acquired via a $300,000 transfer from Chelsea, has yet to play due to a heel injury.
