Seahawks Lose Two Safeties for Opener

The Seattle Seahawks will be without two of their top three safeties for their season opener against the New England Patriots. Nick Emmanwori and Ty Okada are inactive, with Okada ruled out due to a hamstring injury and Emmanwori continuing to recover from ankle surgery recovery. Emmanwori had an arthroscopic procedure in July to repair a right ankle injury he played through in Seattle's Super Bowl LX win over New England.

Rodney Thomas II, elevated from the practice squad, is a candidate to replace Okada in the starting lineup. The fifth-year pro made 26 starts over his first three seasons with the Indianapolis Colts. The team also signed AJ Finley off its practice squad and released guard Bryce Cabeldue to make room on its 53-man roster.

Seahawks general manager John Schneider praised Thomas and Finley as intelligent, instinctive players with range and potential to play free safety. In addition, the Seahawks elevated running back Velus Jones Jr. off their practice squad. Other inactives include quarterback Jalen Milroe (emergency third QB), wide receiver Tory Horton (hamstring), guard Beau Stephens, tight end Nick Kallerup, and defensive end Mike Morris.
