Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold exited Wednesday night's season-opening 13-10 win over the New England Patriots after sustaining a hip injury on the first drive. Darnold was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for a CT scan, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. The initial test was encouraging but inconclusive, and Darnold is now scheduled to undergo an MRI on Thursday.

Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said doctors do not believe the quarterback's hip is fractured. Veteran backup Drew Lock completed 16 of 22 attempts for 187 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in relief. Lock, 29, entered with a 10-18 record as a starter over his first seven NFL seasons.

Jalen Milroe was designated pregame as Seattle's emergency third quarterback. Last year, Darnold became the first quarterback in NFL history to win 14 regular-season games in consecutive seasons with different teams, having gone 14-3 in 2024 with the Minnesota Vikings before doing the same with Seattle while making his second straight Pro Bowl. According to ESPN Research, Darnold's 17 wins, including playoffs, were the most by a quarterback in his first season with a team.
