Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield is expected to miss at least three weeks with a dislocated thumb on his throwing hand, coach Todd Bowles announced Monday. The injury occurred Sunday during a 20-16 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

Mayfield's MRI showed no additional damage to his right thumb, sources told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler and Jenna Laine. He avoided damage to the ligament or tendon but still needs to be able to grip the ball.

Rookie Jalon Daniels will replace the injured Mayfield as the Buccaneers' starting quarterback. The injury happened with 1:54 remaining when Mayfield's pass was intercepted by Vikings linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel on fourth-and-13.

Mayfield's 54 regular-season starts since joining the Buccaneers is tied for most in the league. He has never missed a start in Tampa Bay despite an injury-marred season last year.
