Nick Wagoner, ESPN NFL reporter since 2016, covered the 49ers' Super Bowl runs and Kaepernick's protest. In Melbourne, Australia, rookie receiver De'Zhaun Stribling suffered a left ankle injury in the second quarter of Thursday's 27-7 win over the Los Angeles Rams and did not return. Coach Kyle Shanahan said initial testing was inconclusive, noting the Achilles was intact but the ankle's severity remains unknown.

Stribling, selected No. 33 in the April draft, had a strong training camp and was expected to play a big role. He was helped to the sideline and rode a cart to the locker room. The 49ers ruled him out before halftime.

With Stribling out, Evans, Samuel and Demarcus Robinson caught touchdowns from Brock Purdy. Tight end Jake Tonges also left with a knee injury, diagnosed as an MCL issue, which Shanahan called serious. More tests will be conducted after the team returns to the Bay Area.
