Racing Max Verstappen for 10 Seconds: Inside Max vs 100

ESPN's Nate Saunders raced against Max Verstappen in Max vs 100 on Disney+, a simple concept: put four-time world champion Verstappen at the back of a 101-kart grid at Silverstone and give him 30 laps to pass everyone. Once passed, your race was over. Starting 89th, Saunders was eliminated before his kart even reached the front of the grid.

Verstappen dispatched an astonishing 64 drivers in the first lap alone and needed only 13 more to overtake everyone else. He enjoyed it so much he teased doing it again next year against 200. Starting as low as Saunders did, there was probably not much chance of any other outcome.

An improved grid spot wouldn't have made a shred of difference. As the red lights went on, Verstappen rocked his kart backwards and forwards, an old trick from age seven, so his kart was already rolling when the lights turned green. Saunders moved off sluggishly. Approximately 10 seconds later, Verstappen breezed by as though driving a different category of vehicle.

My own kart got turned around. So that was it. 10 seconds after racing Verstappen had started, my race against Verstappen was over.
