Carlos Alcaraz plans to take more breaks during the tennis season after returning from a four-month wrist injury absence. The defending US Open champion advanced to the fourth round with a 6-3, 6-4, 6-1 win over Wu Yibing, saying his body feels good with no setbacks. Alcaraz said his injury at the Barcelona Open wasn't caused by overplaying, and taking time off would provide mental benefits rather than physical ones.

He prefers to be "mentally healthy" and feels that breaks will help him prepare better for tournaments. Alcaraz played 80 matches last year with a 71-9 record, winning his seventh major at the Australian Open before getting hurt. Unlike many players, he doesn't have ranking or financial concerns about skipping events.

He worries about the season length and wants to feel well-prepared for Grand Slams and Masters 1000s. The 23-year-old debuted a new look with a white shirt under his sleeveless shirt and a new arrow celebration chosen by his brothers.
