Mutares has completed the acquisition of Trepel Airport Equipment and Mafi Transport-Systeme from NDW Maschinenbau Holding, adding two established brands in ground support equipment and heavy-duty transport to its Infrastructure & Defense segment. The deal combines two global providers of equipment for airport ground handling, ports and industrial logistics. Trepel makes aircraft tractors, cargo high loaders and loader transporters for the aviation sector, while Mafi specializes in heavy-duty terminal tractors and transport systems for ports, logistics hubs and industrial applications.

The combined businesses operate an integrated production facility in Tauberbischofsheim, Germany, along with a service location in Georgia in the US, and maintain a sales and service network spanning more than 115 countries. Trepel and Mafi generate combined revenues of about €150 million and employ around 410 people. The service business currently makes up about 12 percent of total revenue, which offers potential for recurring revenue, according to the company.

An initial transformation program, including operational optimization and cost-reduction measures, has positioned the businesses for further profitability improvement and sustainable growth, providing a platform for expansion in the ground support, cargo handling and industrial transport equipment markets, according to the company.
