Qualcomm is preparing its next flagship mobile chip, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, in two versions: standard and Extreme. Based on a 2nm process, the standard chip features an eight-core Oryon CPU with prime cores up to 5GHz, 16MB Flex Cache, an Adreno GPU 35% faster, and an NPU 14% faster with 20% better performance-per-watt. The Spectra ISP supports 8K video at 30fps and up to 320MP photos. Connectivity includes the X105 5G modem, Bluetooth 6, Wi-Fi 8, and ultra wideband.

The Extreme variant adds support for AI models over 30 billion parameters, APV and VVC codecs, 18MB high-performance memory, and 8K video at 60fps or 4K slow-motion at 240fps. New Matrix Cores in the Adreno GPU offer AI-powered super resolution and frame generation.

Motorola has committed to using the chip in its upcoming Signature 27 phone. It remains to be seen how many next-gen phones will adopt it, as device makers ultimately decide which features to implement.
