OpenAI announced a new $500-per-month Pro plan during its Dev Day event, offering the highest usage allowance and access to its new "Ultrafast" feature. This follows the company's introduction of a $200 Pro plan at the end of 2024, which was later matched by competitors like Anthropic and Perplexity.

Ultrafast is a premium speed tier that enables Codex and Work apps to generate up to 300 tokens per second, and it is also available to API users. Concurrently, OpenAI is reducing the benefits of its existing $200 Pro plan: usage in Codex and Work drops from 20x to 10x of the Plus allowance, and GPT-6 Pro message caps in ChatGPT decrease from 200 to 100 per week. Existing subscribers will keep current limits temporarily and later receive a one-time credit.

All Pro subscribers will get a single Dot, OpenAI's new personal AI agent, and conversations with Dot won't count toward ChatGPT usage limits. The company is partnering with 16 firms, including Notion and Cognition, to allow Plus and Pro customers to run OpenAI models via "Sign in with ChatGPT" without an API key.

OpenAI also introduced GPT-6.1 Sol, which offers nearly the same performance as GPT-6.0 Astra in coding and computer use but at one-fifth the cost. The new model is claimed to be safer and more transparent. It is available today in Codex and Work for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Education users, with ChatGPT availability later.
