Meta is bringing The New York Times Cooking app to its display and AI glasses with a new "hands-free mode" that narrates recipe steps. The feature was previewed at Meta's developer state of the union at Connect.

When I reviewed Meta's display-enabled glasses last year, I was curious about their cooking potential. Seeing steps in front of my eyes seemed more convenient than scrolling my phone with dirty hands, but the glasses didn't hold up. Recipe steps wouldn't appear long enough to complete them.

Meta has now revived hope. The integration will bring recipes to Ray-Ban Display glasses and non-display AI glasses. The hands-free mode pairs glasses to the app for audio cues. "With cooking's editorial guidance, we developed a system to restructure lengthy steps into brief audio instructions," said The New York Times' AJ Chavar.

Display glasses will show each step on cards users can swipe through. Chavar didn't specify a release date but said hands-free mode rolls out "later this fall."
