Apple is developing new HomePod features including surround sound and Party Mode, based on code references in audio OS 27 beta 8. Discovered by a Mac Rumors forum user, the code suggests support for arranging four full-sized HomePod (2nd generation) speakers into a surround sound system. Currently, HomePod supports stereo pair configuration for Apple TV.

In the quad setup, front speakers use left/right processing with wall compensation, while rear HomePods get omnidirectional treatment. The system includes dynamic surround sound tuning to adjust processing based on content type like movies or music. A "Forklift" system combines two full-sized second-generation HomePod speakers with two other speakers using an unknown identifier.

Another feature, "Party Mode," spreads sound into a wider, more ambient mix to fill rooms evenly rather than creating a focused listening spot.
