Take last week. The Boston Globe had an article about a financially struggling lesbian bar trying to stay afloat by relaxing Covid rules. The response was outrage, with one user writing: “I hope your venue gets firebombed.” Soon after, Stanford University apologized for using AI to transform the race and sex of a real student. Billy Ramirez, a Hispanic biology major, had been replaced by a black woman. “Seeing my identity changed made me feel silenced and erased,” he said.

The same week, a Philadelphia teacher known as a Palestinian activist admitted she actually isn’t. Hannah Gann called herself a “white woman of significant privilege and wealth” who deceived everyone. Many progressives are still obsessed by victimhood and group identity, which produced Woke 1. Yet read today’s news, and it’s easy to wonder whether the fever on the left has even begun to break.
