JB Pritzker Used GLP-1s to Lose 80 Pounds

Gov. JB Pritzker of Illinois, a potential 2028 presidential candidate, revealed on "CBS Mornings" that he has lost 80 pounds since starting a GLP-1 regimen in 2024. "I've been driven my whole life to lose weight," he said. "The fact that I am now able to do it because this GLP-1 became available... has meant a lot to me."

In a country where roughly 11 percent of adults take GLP-1s, Pritzker, a billionaire heir to the Hyatt hotel fortune, may appear more relatable to Democratic voters skeptical of the ultrawealthy. Past candidates who lost weight pre-campaign include Chris Christie, Jeb Bush, and Cory Booker. Al Gore's 2007 weight loss sparked 2008 rumors.

Pritzker deflected suggestions his weight loss relates to national ambitions. He is running for a third term as governor against Republican Darren Bailey, whom he defeated by 13 points in 2022. "I have not made any decisions about what I might do in the future," he said.

Pritzker said doctors warned he had reached diabetic status and needed insulin. He began predawn four-mile walks in Chicago and a GLP-1, losing enough weight to stop insulin. He has clashed with President Trump, who said last year he "ought to spend more time in the gym."
