Duane Keith Davis, 63, a former high-ranking member of the South Side Compton Crips known as Keffe D, was found guilty of first-degree murder on Monday for the 1996 killing of Tupac Shakur. Davis long claimed he orchestrated the drive-by shooting in Las Vegas as retribution for a beating of his nephew, Orlando Anderson, by Shakur and associates, including Marion "Suge" Knight of Death Row Records. His admissions in a 2008 police interview, a documentary, and his memoir prompted authorities to reopen the case.

Davis stated he passed a gun to Anderson in a white Cadillac, who fired at the BMW carrying Shakur and Knight. Shakur was shot four times and died six days later. The rivalry between Knight's label and Sean Combs's Bad Boy Records formed the backdrop.

Since his 2023 arrest in Henderson, Nev., Davis has recanted, claiming embellishment. No murder weapon or Cadillac was recovered, and the other three occupants are deceased. Defense lawyer Michael Sanft argued Davis was prone to fabrication.

Davis, who cited colon cancer, faces life in prison and is held without bail.
