Pakistan Diversifies Funding Sources After UAE Loan Decline

Pakistan is actively seeking alternative funding sources after the UAE declined to roll over a $3 billion loan earlier this year, highlighting the risks of its heavy reliance on bilateral financing. The country has diversified its funding strategy by raising $500 million through a private bond sale in April, followed by the issuance of its first yuan-denominated notes in China's onshore market—the cheapest foreign-currency bond offering ever. Most notably, Pakistan recently raised a record $3 billion from a junk bond sale, supported by credit rating upgrades and improved diplomatic relations with the US under President Donald Trump's administration.

This strategic shift aims to reduce dependency on bilateral loans and strengthen its international financial positioning.
