Old hands or new blood? Wigan & Wakefield vie to reach Grand Final. Wigan Warriors are the grizzled old hands, while Wakefield Trinity are the fresh, new blood hoping to make a big statement. Trinity were a Championship side in 2024 but have been reinvigorated since, making the play-offs in back-to-back years and now just 80 minutes from their first Grand Final. Their opponents are serial winners, having regained the Challenge Cup and League Leaders' Shield in 2026.

Wounded in 2025, hungry in 2026. Hull KR's smashing of the glass ceiling last season was felt keenly in Wigan, but they have had an intensity about them all season. The Warriors' last defeat came in May, and the subsequent 15 league games have ended in victory. Harry Smith said, "We took a lot of learnings last year, not taking away any silverware and it's given us a lot of motivation."

Trinity rebuilt, now for the next step. Owner Matt Ellis appointed Daryl Powell, whose experience has been key. Tyson Smoothy swapped the NRL Grand Final for the northern hemisphere and has seen how far the team has come. Smoothy told BBC Radio Leeds, "To be able to go to Old Trafford and a Grand Final would be massive for the club."
