Republic of Ireland head coach Heimir Hallgrimsson confirmed the team will fulfil their second Uefa Nations League fixture against Israel, despite ongoing pressure from the 'Stop The Game' campaign organised by Irish Sport for Palestine. The campaign issued an open letter calling for Ireland to withdraw from Sunday's behind-closed-doors match in Serbia, following the team's 3-0 victory over Israel in Hungary. Hallgrimsson stated that the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) intends to play both games and that no squad meeting is planned to reconsider the decision.

Speaking before Thursday's game against Austria in Dublin, Hallgrimsson emphasised focusing on football amid external pressures. On Saturday, goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu made himself unavailable for both Israel games, citing moral concerns. However, Bazunu has since rejoined training, and Hallgrimsson praised his character, confirming that Luton keeper Josh Keeley will replace him for the second Israel fixture. The coach criticised misinformation surrounding Bazunu's decision.

The Republic of Ireland's previous home game against Qatar in May was disrupted by fan protests, with tennis balls bearing Palestine flags thrown onto the pitch. Hallgrimsson declined to comment further on potential protests during the Austria match, stating he would leave security matters to others.
