Roy Hodgson has accepted the caretaker manager position at Bristol City until the end of the season following the sacking of Gerhard Struber. The 78-year-old former England manager, who hasn't worked since leaving Crystal Palace in 2024, describes the role as a chance to reconnect with the game he missed after retiring. 'I'd come to terms with that quite well then something like this happens and you realise that there's a lot I do miss,' Hodgson stated. He returns to the club where he began his career in 1982, though his brief tenure then was during a turbulent financial period when the club nearly went out of business.

Despite his extensive managerial history at clubs like Liverpool and West Brom, Hodgson insists he's 'too old' for a long-term position, limiting his involvement to Bristol's seven remaining Championship games. 'I'm hoping that with my experience and the way I work, some of that might be different to the club and to the players and staff around the club,' he added.
