Cyle Larin: Southampton's Championship Star

BBC Sport Football •

Cyle Larin is the leading goalscorer in the Championship, with seven goals in seven league matches for Southampton. His average of 73 minutes per goal betters Kylian Mbappe (75) and Erling Haaland (90). Saints head coach Tonda Eckert calls him "the best striker in the league".

The 'Brampton bagsman', from Ontario, has helped Southampton from bottom (minus four points) to the top eight. Without the points deduction from the Spygate scandal, they would be second, behind West Ham on goal difference.

Since joining on loan from Mallorca in early 2026, Larin has 17 goals in 31 appearances. He shone for Canada at the World Cup, scoring twice as they reached the last 16. He will receive a key to Brampton during the international break.

Larin credits his team-mates, with Finn Azaz and Leo Scienza providing five goals and six assists. He averages 1.23 goals per 90 minutes.
