The 45-year-old driver, whose contract expires at the end of 2026, expressed strong dissatisfaction with the upcoming 2026 ruleset, preferring a return to greater combustion power. Despite a heavily updated AMR26 showing chassis improvements at Budapest and Zandvoort, Alonso noted engine drivability remains problematic.

He remains fully supportive of engine partner Honda, trusting their personnel and facilities in Japan to close the performance gap within two or three years. At Monza, Alonso doubted a repeat of Zandvoort's result due to the circuit's reliance on engine power. He stressed he will continue performing at 100% regardless of car performance but hopes to influence future regulations toward what he considers "real Formula 1.".
