In less than 200 days after launch, Chat GPT Ads has reached $1 billion in annualized revenue run rate and is used by tens of thousands of advertisers. Starting later today, advertisers can purchase ads directly via Ads Manager across India, Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. Advertising is one pillar of Open AI's diversified business model, alongside consumer subscriptions, enterprise offerings, and usage-based APIs, supporting a free tier for more than 1 billion weekly active users.

People come to Chat GPT with clear goals — choosing software, learning languages, planning renovations, or exploring hobbies. The ads system uses conversation context to show relevant ads, and where enabled, broader user interests. Ads are clearly labeled, separate from answers, and do not influence responses. Advertisers cannot access private conversations, and users control ad personalization.

Chat GPT Ads are now available in over 40 countries through the Open AI Ads Solutions team and partners. Self-service access via Ads Manager, launched in May, opened the platform to small and medium-sized businesses, which now represent a material share of revenue. CPC and outcome-optimized bidding account for most campaigns, with Pixel and Conversions API enabling measurement. The client base is increasingly global, with non-U.S. advertisers driving growing revenue share.
