Microsoft's latest security updates have introduced several regressions across its operating system and productivity suite. The patches, intended to address vulnerabilities, have instead disrupted Remote Desktop Services (RDS), silenced certain USB audio devices, and broken the paste function in Excel. Reports of RDS failures began circulating on social media shortly after the update's release.

Microsoft confirmed that connections might fail after a few minutes, servers could hang during configuration, and related tools like MMC and File Explorer might become unresponsive. For some users, restarting virtual machines temporarily restores connectivity, but a permanent fix is underway. Additionally, support for USB Audio Class 1.0 devices on Windows 11 versions 24H2, 25H2, and 26H1 has been compromised, leading to no audio or broken sound settings.

Switching to two-channel mode may restore functionality. In Excel, versions 2016 through 2024 now experience silent paste failures, where content remains selected but does not transfer. Users with automatic updates may have already installed the problematic patches, and while some have reverted by uninstalling the update, this also removes critical security fixes.

Microsoft is working on resolutions but has not provided timelines.
