Kadō: Open-Source iOS Habit Tracker with Non-Binary Score

Hacker News •
×

Kadō is a privacy-first habit tracker for iPhone and iPad that uses a non-binary exponential moving average score instead of streaks, inspired by Loop Habit Tracker on Android. One missed day doesn’t erase progress—users see trends, not fragile chains. The app is open source (MIT), requires no account, subscription, or telemetry, and stores data locally via Swift Data with optional iCloud sync through Cloud Kit private database.

Features include per-day notes, flexible scheduling (daily, N days/week, specific weekdays, every N days), widget support, Siri and Shortcuts integration, lossless JSON/CSV export/import, and full accessibility with Dynamic Type, VoiceOver, and Dark Mode. It supports binary, counter, or timer habit types and allows adjusting the day rollover up to 6 AM without rebuketing history. Kadō ships on the App Store at version 1.7, with English and native French localization.

The Tip Jar is optional and unlocks nothing. Development of Apple Watch and Health Kit integration was scoped but descoped due to lack of user demand.
