Automattic CEO Matt Mullenweg has rebuilt the company's board following a failed attempt by previous directors to place him on leave. The conflict arose when the original board voted to remove Mullenweg, who regained control just 33 hours later. Mullenweg now controls 84% of voting shares and has appointed a new board including science-fiction author Hugh Howey, Amy Chan, and IRL co-founders Henry Khachatryan and Krutal Desai.

The previous board members Toni Schneider, Ann Dunwoody, and Sue Decker were removed or resigned, along with CFO Mark Davies and legal officer Andy Missan. New advisers include former Whoop CTO Jaime Waydo, June co-founder Matt Van Horn, and KISSmetrics co-founder Hiten Shah. Mullenweg stated the board meeting was 'the most interesting board in a decade' and emphasized significant changes ahead for Automattic, the parent company of WordPress.com, Tumblr, and WooCommerce.
