In a statement, A/I explained that continuing operations would endanger users, supporters, and associated communities by exposing them to legal, financial, and physical threats from autocrats, fascists, and agencies acting extra-legally. The collective refused to demand heroic sacrifices or martyrdom from anyone involved.

Under these conditions, they can no longer fulfill their mission of offering secure, non-commercial digital tools.
