Panic has scheduled its Playdate Update Showcase for Wednesday, September 9, at 12PM ET, streaming on YouTube and its livestreaming site. The event will reveal the games included in Playdate Season 3 and its release date, following past seasons' format of weekly game drops over a month.

Season 2, which launched in May 2025 and cost $39 for six weeks, featured titles like Fulcrum Defender by Subset Games, Dig! Dig! Dino! by Dom2D and Fáyer, Catcha Diablos by Amano, and Shadowgate PD by Pixel Ghost. It also debuted Blippo+, a cable-TV simulator by YACHT, Telefantasy Studios and Dustin Mierau, now on Steam.

Panic recently refunded customers who paid US tariff fees under President Donald Trump's import-tax scheme, a move co-founder Cabel Sasser called "just not our money to keep." More than 15,000 people purchased Season 2, and over 80,000 Playdates have been sold since 2022.

The device is currently out of stock online, but will be available at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo on October 9-11. The showcase airs just one hour before Apple's iPhone event, a timing Panic chose deliberately.
