Users Flock to DuckDuckGo Amid AI Search Backlash

DuckDuckGo has seen visits to its "No AI" search page more than triple following Google's May 19th I/O announcement of AI-powered search features. The privacy-focused search engine reported traffic increased to 3x the previous level on May 28th and has maintained 84% above baseline since Google unveiled its new "intelligent" search box with AI suggestions and personal intelligence features.

DuckDuckGo is actively promoting extensions for Chrome and Firefox that set No AI search as the default option. The No AI experience eliminates AI-assisted answers, chat interfaces, and reduces AI image results. DuckDuckGo offers its own AI tools but keeps them disabled for users who prefer the traditional search approach, though Apple device users cannot set the No AI page as their default engine.

The growing preference for non-AI search extends beyond DuckDuckGo, with paid alternatives like Kagi gaining traction. Kagi charges $5-10 monthly for unlimited searches with no ads or data collection. DuckDuckGo plans to expand No AI settings to its original extensions across multiple browsers.
