Nuki Keypad 2 NFC Adds Aliro-Powered Home Key Support to Smart Locks

Smart lock maker Nuki has launched the Keypad 2 NFC, the first keypad to support Aliro, a new smart lock standard designed for cross-platform interoperability. Aliro, created by the Connectivity Standards Alliance (including Apple), allows smart locks to work with any smartphone or wearable without dedicated apps. The Keypad 2 NFC enables tap-to-unlock functionality using Apple Home Key stored in Wallet.

To use Home Key, you need both the Nuki Smart Lock and Keypad 2 NFC. The Smart Lock already has Matter integration for HomeKit compatibility, but the Keypad 2 NFC adds the convenience of digital key access. The Keypad features a touchpad for codes, fingerprint sensor for biometric authentication, and NFC for tap unlocking. Setup proved somewhat unintuitive, requiring iPhone tapping to associate with existing Home Key configurations.

The Keypad 2 NFC costs $179, while the Smart Lock is $199. It supports up to 20 fingerprints, 200 access codes, and 35 tap-to-unlock keys. The device has IP54 water resistance and uses AAA batteries lasting up to a year. Home Key functionality requires a Matter-enabled Apple hub and compatible hardware (iPhone XS or later with iOS 18.6+, Apple Watch Series 4 or later with watchOS 11.6+).
