iPhone Ultra Early Impressions: Praise for Design, Concerns Over Camera

Apple's upcoming foldable iPhone Ultra is winning over early testers for its pocket-friendly size, durable hinge, and iPad-like app layouts on the larger internal display. Testers also praise its performance as a camera viewfinder. However, the device lacks a telephoto lens, which could impact sales given its expected high price.

The rear camera system is expected to feature a 48-megapixel main lens and an ultra-wide lens. To maintain a thin profile of around 4.5mm when unfolded, Apple is reportedly using Touch ID in the side button instead of in-display Face ID—a compromise some users may prefer. The iPhone Ultra is said to have a 5.5-inch outer display and a roughly 7.8-inch inner display when opened, similar to Samsung's Z Fold 8.

It is set to be unveiled alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Max at a launch event around September 9, with a starting price of $2,000 and potential to exceed $2,500 for higher storage tiers.
