iPhone 17 Pro Makes Sports Broadcast History

Apple announced that Saturday's Major League Soccer match between LA Galaxy and Houston Dynamo FC will mark the first time an iPhone captures an entire major professional sports broadcast. The iPhone 17 Pro will film team warmups, player introductions, in-net angles, and stadium atmosphere, delivering broadcast-quality video with new perspectives impossible with traditional cameras.

Apple positioned cameras throughout the stadium to capture the match exclusively with the iPhone 17 Pro, showcasing the device's advanced capabilities. Subscribers can stream the game live on May 23 at 7:30 p.m. Pacific Time on Apple TV. For the 2026 season, only an Apple TV subscription is required, eliminating the need for a separate MLS Season Pass.

Last year, Apple used iPhone 17 Pro for select moments during a Boston Red Sox game, but other cameras were still involved. Earlier this year, the U.S. National Baseball Hall of Fame added one of those devices to its permanent collection. This weekend's MLS broadcast represents a significant milestone for mobile video production in professional sports.
