According to a recent Counterpoint Research report, Apple's iPhone 16 was the world's best-selling smartphone in 2025. Apple and Samsung continued their dominance, collectively holding 19% of overall smartphone sales. Apple secured seven of the top ten spots. The iPhone 17 series also saw strong sales, driven by demand in key markets like the U.S. and China.

The iPhone 17 base model showed the highest growth, boosted by upgrades like a higher refresh rate and increased storage. The more affordable iPhone 16e also contributed to sales, entering Apple's ecosystem at a lower price point. Samsung's Galaxy A16 5G was the top-selling Android phone. The Galaxy S25 Ultra maintained a flagship position in the market.

This success continues Apple's strategy of offering a range of devices at different price points. The iPhone 16, still sold, features an A18 chip, a dual-lens camera, and a customizable Action button. With rising memory prices, Counterpoint anticipates that premium flagship devices will increase their presence on the market in the coming year.
