Apple CEO Tim Cook has received a warning letter from the FTC over concerns about content curation in Apple News. The letter, sent by FTC chairman Andrew Ferguson, cites a report from the Media Research Center claiming Apple promoted "leftist outlets" while suppressing conservative publications like Fox News and the New York Post in January 2026.

According to the MRC report, Apple News failed to feature any right-leaning outlets in its top 20 morning articles between January 1-31, while favoring traditionally center or nonpartisan publications such as The Washington Post and Reuters. Ferguson, appointed by President Trump, stated Apple should conduct a "comprehensive review" of its terms of service and take corrective action if its curation violates them or consumer expectations.

The FTC's warning comes amid escalating tensions between Apple and the Trump administration. The letter follows President Trump sharing the MRC report on Truth Social, with White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt amplifying it on X. This marks a significant shift from recent months when Trump had refrained from criticizing Apple after Cook pledged $600 billion in U.S. investments and presented Trump with a gold-mounted glass plaque.
