Foldable iPhone Dummy Models Reveal New Design

Leaker Sonny Dickson today shared images of dummy models for the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and Apple's first foldable iPhone. The dummy units, used for testing and accessory development, show the foldable iPhone with a passport-style form factor unlike any previous iPhone design. While the iPhone 18 Pro models look similar to their predecessors with smaller Dynamic Islands, the foldable features a completely new approach.

Previously, the best reference came from a 3D model based on a MacRumors forum user's mockup, which predicted many design elements like the horizontal dual-camera array and top-mounted volume buttons. However, the dummy models reveal key differences, including a rear panel without a glass window for wireless charging and a camera plateau that stops three-quarters along the back rather than extending the full width. The design suggests the entire rear may be glass, similar to the rumored iPhone Air.

The foldable iPhone is expected to feature a 7.8-inch inner display with a 4:3 aspect ratio, 5.5-inch outer display, ultra-thin 4.5mm titanium frame, Touch ID, and a starting price around $2,000. While all three models are expected to launch in fall, the latest rumors suggest the foldable could face delays.
