CarPlay Expands with Six New iPhone Apps

Apple's CarPlay just got a six‑app boost, adding OpenAI's ChatGPT, Perplexity, Grok, Google Meet, WhatsApp and indie‑music service Audiomack. iOS 26.4 enables voice‑first chatbot interactions, so users can speak to ChatGPT while the app runs on the dashboard, though text and images stay hidden for safety. Updating to the latest app versions makes them appear automatically, once the vehicle detects CarPlay.

Google Meet joins the roster, letting drivers join meetings with a single tap and view upcoming schedules, but video streams remain off‑screen to keep eyes on the road. WhatsApp received a redesign that swaps limited Siri shortcuts for full chat lists, recent calls and a favorites tab, turning the messaging app into a more usable in‑car hub, and syncs with your calendar for seamless scheduling.

Audiomack brings its focus on independent artists—especially Afrobeats and hip‑hop—to CarPlay with Discover, Charts, Playlists and My Library sections, allowing passengers to stream or download tracks without fiddling with a phone. The expansion reflects CarPlay's shift from pure navigation toward broader entertainment, giving iPhone users a richer, hands‑free media experience today. It also supports background playback when the driver switches apps.
