Apple's AI Wearables to Feature Visual Intelligence

Apple's upcoming AI wearables, including smart glasses, a pendant, and advanced AirPods, will heavily feature Visual Intelligence technology, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The company's CEO Tim Cook has been signaling the importance of this feature, following a pattern similar to how he foreshadowed health sensors and augmented reality before launching the Apple Watch and Apple Vision Pro.

On iPhone 15 Pro models, Visual Intelligence allows users to learn about places and objects through the camera, summarize text, translate languages, and search Google. Gurman reports that Apple's smart glasses will include an advanced camera system with both high-resolution photo capabilities and a secondary camera for Siri and environmental context. The AI pin, if launched, will have a lower-resolution always-on camera for visual insight without photo capture capabilities.

Apple's smart glasses will compete with Meta Ray-Bans and target a 2027 launch, with production potentially starting in December 2026. AirPods with cameras are planned for as early as this year, while the AI pin remains in early development stages and could still be canceled. During recent earnings calls and employee meetings, Cook highlighted Visual Intelligence as one of Apple Intelligence's standout features, despite its reliance on OpenAI and Google technologies.
