Dr. Eric Rosenberg of SightMD made medical history by performing the first cataract surgery using Apple Vision Pro in October 2025. Using ScopeXR, a surgical platform he co-developed, Rosenberg has since completed hundreds of procedures. The technology streams 3D microscope feeds directly into the headset, enabling stereoscopic visualization with diagnostic overlays while supporting real-time remote collaboration among surgeons.

"This technology democratizes access to expertise and that will save vision," Rosenberg stated, explaining how the platform brings world-class surgical knowledge into operating rooms globally. Surgeons can now virtually join procedures, seeing exactly what the operating physician sees through the mixed reality interface.

The medical application represents Apple's strategic pivot toward enterprise use cases for Vision Pro. Consumer adoption has struggled due to cost and form factor, prompting Apple to focus on specialized markets. Reports indicate Apple is shifting attention toward lightweight smart glasses instead of developing Vision Pro successors.
