Apple to Push iPhone Air 2 Forward Amid Weak Sales

Leaker Fixed Focus Digital posted on Weibo that Apple will ship a second‑generation iPhone Air regardless of its dismal market performance. The original iPhone Air, launched September 2025, has seen “virtually no demand” according to a KeyBanc survey, with Luxshare halting production in October and Foxconn slated to end output by December. Apple appears intent on preserving the model’s two‑generation roadmap.

Same source added that the upcoming iPhone 18 will arrive with almost unchanged exterior dimensions, save for a slight tweak. Internally, Apple plans to equip it with the A20 and C2 processors, 12 GB RAM, a 24‑megapixel front camera, and a streamlined Camera Control button. The move signals an incremental refresh rather than a design overhaul.

Reports from The Information indicate Apple is already reworking the Air 2, adding a 48‑megapixel Fusion Ultra‑Wide rear lens, lighter chassis, vapor‑chamber cooling and a thinner Face ID module to address criticism. The device is slated for a spring 2027 release, following a split iPhone 18 lineup that pushes premium Pro models to fall 2026. Apple’s commitment shows it will not abandon the Air segment despite weak sales.
