Apple reorganizes hardware leadership as Ternus takes CEO role

Johny Srouji has taken over as Apple's Chief Hardware Officer and moved quickly to reorganize the company's hardware development leadership. The reshuffle brings chip and product development teams closer together, with Srouji aiming to speed up work on future devices. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports the changes are substantial heading into the John Ternus era.

Product design oversight shifts from Kate Bergeron to her longtime deputies Shelly Goldberg and Dave Pakula, who previously led Mac and Apple Watch/iPad/AirPods teams respectively. Bergeron gains product reliability oversight and materials decisions. Two of Ternus' former deputies, Matt Costello and Kevin Lynch, now report directly to Srouji.

Apple keeps product design separate from industrial design, where the latter handles vision and appearance while the former turns concepts into shippable products. These changes tighten silicon-product integration across the board, positioning the company for Ternus' leadership starting September 1.
