Apple Negotiating News Deals for Siri AI Content

Apple has approached publishers to establish content deals that would give Siri AI access to current news and information, reports The Wall Street Journal. Unlike typical AI deals that involve set fees for broad access, Apple is proposing multiyear agreements where publishers receive payment based on content usage. Apple has reportedly discussed a nine-figure budget for these payments.

Siri AI is set to launch this fall in iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27. This update represents a major departure from the prior version of Siri. Apple has a strong incentive to ensure accurate news headlines, following an earlier embarrassment where Apple Intelligence generated false headlines in iOS 18.

Apple has previously worked with publishers for its Apple News+ service since 2019, though some publishers ended partnerships due to dissatisfaction with previous deals. This new approach aims to secure high-quality information for its evolving AI capabilities.
