Apple's upcoming iPhone Fold is set to debut a new Samsung-made OLED technology called CoE (Color Filter on Encapsulation), according to a report from The Elec. This innovation removes the traditional polarizing film, applying the color filter directly to the encapsulation layer. The result is a significantly thinner display stack that allows more light to pass through, delivering higher brightness and improved power efficiency.

This breakthrough is crucial as it addresses key limitations of current OLED panels, paving the way for sleeker device designs. The technology is expected to launch first in the foldable iPhone, potentially in late 2026, before being adopted by the iPhone Air 2 in 2027. Samsung is also advancing this tech, planning to use it in the Galaxy S26 Ultra, signaling a major shift in premium smartphone display manufacturing.
