Apple Intelligence Home Features Lock to 2TB iCloud+

Apple will require users to subscribe to at least a 2TB iCloud+ plan to access new Apple Intelligence features within the Home app in iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27. These advanced capabilities include generating written summaries for motion alerts from HomeKit Secure Video cameras, grouping footage from multiple cameras for activity overviews, identifying noteworthy recordings, and supporting natural language search for video content.

While Apple previously stated that some Apple Intelligence features would necessitate an iCloud+ subscription, the specific tier remained undisclosed until now. The 2TB iCloud+ plan, priced at $9.99 per month, not only offers 2TB of general iCloud storage but also unlocks these enhanced Home app functionalities. This plan also allows for an unlimited number of HomeKit Secure Video cameras, a significant upgrade from the 50GB (one camera) and 200GB (up to five cameras) tiers.

Notably, HomeKit Secure Video cloud storage has always demanded a paid iCloud plan. However, the storage used by HomeKit video does not count against the 2TB limit, leaving the full capacity available for photos and other data. This move positions Apple's premium storage tier as essential for users seeking to leverage the full potential of its integrated smart home and AI features.
