Apple eyes agentic AI rival to OpenClaw

Apple could eventually launch a rival to OpenClaw, the agentic AI that runs software autonomously, Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman writes. He bases the forecast on remarks from Siri engineering chief Mike Rockwell after WWDC, where Apple unveiled a rebuilt Siri powered by a large‑language model. Gurman expects a system that would control iPhone, iPad and Mac apps on a user’s behalf.

Rockwell described Siri’s new engine as a “completely modern architecture” designed for extensibility, noting that today the assistant operates on a request‑based loop of input, decision and action. He hinted the framework could later support full‑cycle agents. SVP of Software Engineering Craig Federighi called the broader agent space experimental, stressing that user experience must be refined before any rollout.

Current Siri remains request‑driven, far short of the autonomous capabilities demonstrated by OpenClaw and similar tools from Google and Anthropic. If Apple delivers a true agentic assistant, it would mark a major expansion of its AI strategy and could reshape how consumers interact with iOS, iPadOS and macOS. The company has not confirmed a timeline. No release date has been set.
