The strategy comes as Apple faces a slowing Chinese market. While the company led with a 22% smartphone share in Q4 2025, sales have been declining month-over-month. The broader market shrank 1.6% year-on-year, pressured by weak demand and rising prices.

Government policy also plays a role. A 15% subsidy applies to electronics under 6,000 yuan, but Apple's Pro models exceed this cutoff. This gives local rivals a pricing advantage, making these promotions crucial for Apple to remain competitive in the region.
