Apple has achieved a significant milestone, surpassing $5 trillion in market capitalization for the first time during intraday trading. This makes Apple only the second publicly traded company in history to reach this valuation, joining Nvidia.

Market capitalization, calculated by multiplying share price by outstanding shares, has seen Apple and Nvidia swap positions as the world's most valuable company recently. Nvidia first crossed the $5 trillion mark on October 29, 2025, driven by demand for AI-related GPUs.

Apple's journey to this valuation has been marked by previous trillion-dollar milestones: the first $1 trillion on August 2, 2018, $2 trillion on August 19, 2020, and $3 trillion on January 3, 2022. It reached $4 trillion in October 2025, after Nvidia and Microsoft. This $5 trillion valuation reflects strong Wall Street confidence and a fivefold increase in value in approximately eight years. The company is also preparing for a leadership transition, with Tim Cook moving to executive chairman and John Ternus becoming CEO on September 1. Apple is set to report quarterly earnings on July 30.
