Apple AirPods Pro Cameras Advance Testing Amid Siri AI Delay

Apple's upcoming camera-equipped AirPods Pro are nearing completion, with Bloomberg reporting they’ve reached an “advanced” testing stage. The design and feature set are nearly finalized, and early mass production could begin soon. These AirPods will include built-in cameras that feed visual data to Siri, though they won’t take photos or videos. A longer stem will house the camera, and a small LED light will activate when visual information is sent to Siri. The goal is to let users ask Siri questions about objects in their environment, similar to chatbot image uploads, with potential future uses like reminders or enhanced navigation.

The cameras could also integrate with iOS 27’s planned Visual Intelligence feature, allowing tasks like scanning nutrition labels for calorie tracking. However, Apple’s 2026 launch plans hinge on the completion of a smarter Siri version, currently scheduled for September 2026 alongside iOS 27, macOS 27, and iPadOS 27. Delays may occur if Visual Intelligence isn’t polished enough, as the company prioritizes seamless AI integration.

Rumors suggest the AirPods won’t be labeled “Pro 4” but could adopt names like AirPods Ultra or “Pro 3 With Cameras.” Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman noted they may exceed the $249 price of current Pro 3 models. Apple’s focus on AI-driven functionality positions these AirPods as a premium offering, though their market positioning remains unclear.

If finalized, the AirPods Pro could redefine wearable AI integration, blending hardware innovation with Siri’s evolving capabilities. Their success will depend on balancing functionality with user privacy concerns, a critical factor in Apple’s ecosystem strategy.
