Meta’s Threads has crossed a landmark of 500 million monthly active users, a jump of roughly 100 million since August. The growth follows the platform’s tight integration with Instagram, easing new users into the service. Threads now opens a new chapter as it celebrates the milestone with a suite of fresh features.

The company rolled out its Communities feature from beta, adding distinct icons, a hub in the main menu, and a Progress bar that shows topics nearing community status. Native‑language tags appear in Japan, Korea and Taiwan, while more users earn community champion titles.

Threads also expands Live Chats to more communities, letting users quote moments to their feeds. A new algorithm tool, Your Algo, joins Dear Algo, letting users flag topics for short‑term visibility. The feature launches today in the US, Canada, UK, Australia and New Zealand.

By cementing community tools and refining content curation, Threads positions itself as a viable alternative to Twitter, especially for users drawn from Instagram. The rollout of these features signals Meta’s intent to lock in its growing base and shift the social‑media balance toward its own ecosystem.
